I am an art educator in Northwest Arkansas. I have been a public school art teacher for 12 years. In an earlier part of my art education career, I was a museum educator at Carnegie Museum of Art and an art teacher at a private school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (my hometown). Go Steelers!
I can't imagine not being an educator or being involved in arts education. I want to empower students to think on their own and utlize problem solving and critical thinking skills. I have a choice-based art room where we combine studio art centers, Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB), and Design Thinking.
In addition to teaching - I am the Middle Level Represenative/Vendor Exhibits Coordinator for the Arkansas Art Educators state association (http://www.ararted.org/) and part of our state fine arts curriculum committee. I received the 2014-2015 Arkansas Art Educator of the Year award. (Holy moly - what an honor!) I am also the NAEA Western Region Middle Level Director. I present at our annual state art conference and NAEA conventions, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT).
When I am not busy with art education, I like to spend time with my husband, daughter, and two furry kids at home. I enjoy being outside, gardening, swimming, art-making, cooking, and traveling. We love movies and spending time with our friends and family, too! I also make upcycled jewelry - I usually make commissions and gifts mostly these days, but I hope to get back to making and selling more, too!
