2015-2016 This past year we welcomed a new art teacher and expanded the choice-based learning in both art rooms. We got several grants funded in order to pursue new things and incorporate STEAM and Design Thinking in the 2016-2017 school year. Several new items to be used in the upcoming school year - sewing machines, power tools, LittleBits, electronic circuitry, and green screen recording. Students were very busy learning, pursuing new ideas, and sharing with each other. Here's to 2016-2017 being just as awesome!
2014-2015 School Year - Students are hard at work utilizing materials from our various art centers - drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture, fiber arts, and technology. We have been using 5 iPads in class this year - creating stop motion animations, taking photos, and researching artists, artworks, and images.
2013-2014 Choice-Based Art in Action…. Check out some images of our studio (a.k.a. art classroom) and the art centers we have. The images below are of various projects students are completing at any given time…. some are sewing…. some are using found objects for sculpture…. some are drawing and painting, etc. The best part about allowing for choice-based projects is the collaboration and peer teaching that happens. So many students help one another with each other's projects even if they are not working in that specific media at that time. It's been wonderful to watch the students learn throughout the art-making process even if the product does not come to fruition.
